Suggested exercises and observations

1. Operate the directional valve to see how the cylinder moves up and down.

2. See how the flow goes through the relief valve when the valve is closed

3. Change the mass on the cylinder to see that the raised speed does not change with different load pressures. This is because the flow rate is set by the pump speed.

4. Note that the cylinder falls quickly when lowering as there are no restrictor valves to control the speed. Uncontrolled loads should not be allowed in real applications. The cylinder should move more slowly as the bore area is larger than the annulus area.

5. The cylinder load sets the pressure, not the pump.

Note! This simulation has been made to run much slower than real life. The fluid is also more compressible than it should be in order to demonstrate cylinder acceleration and overruns etc. in later training modules.
