Coursework exercise

Compare the performance capabilities of a hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical drive system. Find an example of hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical drive systems in your local area or select something online by searching the internet. Perhaps a small excavator bucket lift, and electrical ball and screw lifting system and a packing system conveyor belt pneumatic arm.

Calculate the approximate energy used from lifting or moving the mass with the different systems.

Calculate the approximate power used by considering the time taken to move the mass.

Compare the input power ratings of the drive systems used in each situation.

While actual calculated values are preferable, it is acceptable to submit approximate ratios e.g. lifting twice the mass is twice the potential energy. Lifting the same mass in half the time is twice the power.
